Khúc Khích - An Interactive Poster Series

Khúc Khích means giggles, and that is the energy that I am delivering through this project. The "Khúc Khích" exhibition showcases interactive posters that promote traditional Vietnamese children's games using digital platforms. This innovative display aims to revitalize interest in these heritage games, making them accessible to a new generation through engaging, modern technology. Visitors can explore the cultural significance and the fun aspects of these games, experiencing a blend of tradition and technology that celebrates Vietnam's rich heritage.

01. Ca Kheo

Cà Kheo is a well known Vietnamese traditional children’s game also known as stilt walking. I drew inspiration from the game's physical elements and dynamic motion. The wooden stilts, central to "Cà Kheo," are characterized by their distinct elongated shape, which the designer translated into the letter 'A' in the word "CÀ Kheo." 02. Danh Quay

Đánh Quay, or spinning top, is the next game that I’m introducing in this series. I captured the essence of spinning tops using dynamic typography inspired by the velocity lines seen in cartoons, which represent the tops' speedy movement. Small shapes resembling the clay tops surround this typography, evoking the competitive nature of the game played on dirt playgrounds. Click on the poster to see the full interactive design!

03 . Rong Ran Len May

The design features a dragon shaped like a "cây lúa" (rice plant), a deeply symbolic element in Vietnamese culture representing growth and sustenance. This design choice underscores the repetitive nature of the shape of the rice plant, which parallels to the children lining up forming the dragon. 04. Cuop Co

The typography choice for the interactive design named "Cướp cờ" is deeply inspired by the dynamic and central element of the game—the flowing red flags. The main typographic elements are artistically crafted to emulate the shape and fluid motion of these flags, embodying a sense of movement and energy that is core to "Cướp Cờ." 05 Chu Tri Ranh Ranh

The "Chu Tri Rành Rành" poster uses the Avo font, commonly found in Vietnamese elementary textbooks, to evoke tradition and authenticity. The poster also features a variety of other fonts to represent the folk poem's many reinterpretations over time. The poster's interactivity involves users moving circular masks to reveal underlying layers of typefaces, symbolizing the historical alterations of the folk poem.
